App of the Week: Partyology
For many parents, the thought of planning your kid’s next birthday party strikes terror and panic. If you have ever hosted 15 four-year-olds at your house, you know what I’m talking about. When it comes to planning, of course you ask yourself questions like, What is the theme? What should I serve? What about favors? Sure, it’s easy to run to the nearest party store and grab all the Dora the Explorer or Toy Story paper plates and balloons, but to add a little more creative inspiration to your party planning, check out the Partyology app for iOS.
This is a beautiful app that is designed to inspire with photos and give you tips for throwing a great party, for any occasion, not just kids parties. There are ideas for graduations, various holidays, theme parties, baby showers, wedding showers and much more.
The look and feel reminds me of Pinterest with its beautiful styling and professional photography. And don’t fall victim to the feelings of Pinterest inadequacy…’Um, how am I supposed to make that?’ Use the app for any ideas that you want to try and DIY yourself. The photos link to individual sites to get more instruction on the how-tos, and certain products are also available for purchase directly from the app. You can even share photos and ideas with friends via text, email, Twitter.
With my daughter’s birthday coming up in a couple months, I’ll be relying on Partyology to gather inspiration. And while I won’t likely be making a fondant Elsa cake or hand-knit Olaf favors, I can probably swing the glittered marshmallows and printable cutouts. Now that’s a party I can plan.
Partyology is available for free from iTunes. Hopefully an Android version is in the works.
